Sculptural Fashion

I realized that I do most of my blogging on my sculpture art class than any other. I think it is because I am more excited about their work that they are doing this term than my other classes. Plus, there are a lot of exceptional young artists enrolled in that class. I have four more weeks until we switch to the 2nd term of our three- term year. Today they started a sewing project that I am really excited about. They are partnering with another student in the class to design an outfit for a teacher of their choosing. The teachers will all be wearing their outfits to school when they are finished. I did this project during my first year of teaching and it was probably my favorite project of the year, so I am hoping to have success for the second time around and maybe even improvements! It was funny though when I gave the assignment I heard some students muttering under their breath, "How is sewing sculpture?" I will be answering that question tomorrow by showing them how a designer works with their materials and creates forms that can be organic and beautiful or just plain strange and obnoxious. I will be posting some photos of the finished designs!
