I have been picking veggies from the garden for the past two weeks. We planted five different heirloom tomato plants this summer: snow white cherry, green zebra, caspian pink, speckled roman, and a carbon. (All from Lothar Baumann, a retired wood shop teacher from Garrard. Him and his son have an organic farm business in Paint Lick, KY called Forever Farms.) We also planted some yellow squash, jalapenos, and butternut squash. These plants have slowly been delivering the goods. We have eaten a few of the tomatoes (amazingly good) and some yellow squash. Toby even made some fresh pico de gallo with our jalapenos, yesterday. We planted a few perennial herbs this summer as well.. some lavender, kentucky mint, and chives. They have been doing marvelously well! We even planted some basil and parsley in pots. It is so much fun to be able to take a few steps out of your house and snip some fresh herbs for your dinner!
On another note, Toby and I are getting ready to take our last vacation of the summer. We are going home for a week to PA to spend time with our families. I am super excited to see my little nephew, Colton, who is already two and a half years old! It seems like yesterday that he was born! It is quite sad that I can count the number of times that I have seen him since he was born on my ten fingers. (Something I hope to remedy in the future.. by maybe moving closer?) We may also go to Pittsburgh for a day.. our third anniversary is on the 22nd, so we need to figure out some way to celebrate that is romantic and cheap. Any ideas??
On yet another note.. Toby and I are going to hopefully start making some journals and sketchbooks together. (Goal is to sell in local consignment shops?) Toby made the books in the above photos for me in his bookmaking class. He took some of my anthropologie catalogs and turned them into little journals. He then bound over twenty or so of my catalogs together and turned them into a hard-case book. I love to flip through it and still drool over the clothes in them.. from like six years ago! We are even toying with the idea of starting a little Etsy shop?? Who knows.. it all depends on our self discipline on following through with an idea.. something that we tend to be lax in.
