Toronto Boutiques of Note

Chasse Gardee- a boutique on Queen St W that seemed to carry the most exquisite shoe collection in the area. The store was so well designed and decorated with random trinkets and sculptures lining every other shelf in between their adorable shoes. There were even some necklaces that were to die for. The store attendant, who I would like to believe was the owner, offered us great advice on things to do in the city and even gave us her expert advice on the culinary scene. It was her recommendation that led us to Bairrada on College St. for some authentic Portuguese cuisine. Check out the boutique's website here.

Hoi Bo- this unique artist studio/boutique is in the Distillery District. I absolutely loved their handmade leather/canvas bags. The colors were so great and one of the artists/designers explained how they waxed the outside of their bags to give it a weatherproofing. They even sold hand-made screened t-shirts. I almost walked out with a tribal one priced at $50, but I couldn't bring myself to spend that while on vacation. So I am beginning to think about calling and having it shipped. I see no harm in paying an exhorbant price for quality, hand-made craftsmanship. (I am an artist myself, after all. So I deeply appreciate the quality work that goes into something like this.) The t-shirt was a soft, worn-in gray material with bright tribal graphics circling the neckline. Unfortunately, their website had no photos when I checked, but maybe they will be putting some up soon. Check it out here.
